studiohomme: How do your outfits look like these days?
Alexis Mabille: Preppy Boy meats Great Gatsby, but in a slightly trashier version. I’m wearing a lot of clothes from my own collection which I particularly like, in combination with items by Lacoste and Thom Brown among others.
sh: How do you choose your own accessories?
AM: I adore accessories, so I can easily wear a bunch of them at the same time. I fasten my cardigans with an old diamante brooch or an 18th century safety pin, and with my jackets, I always wear lace pocket handkerchieves, purchased at flea markets. I also love, braces and socks in the craziest shades, belts that I collect, and bow ties of course…
sh: Do you have any cult garments?
AM: Yes, a pair of gold converses from Comme des Garçons, a pair of blue embroidered boxer shorts from Thierry Colson, a John Galliano cardigan embroidered over with silver thread and my famous powder pink pashmina that I always keep with me.
sh: Where does your passion for cardigans come from?
AM: Cardigans are sublime! It’s like wearing a freer version of a sweater, you can unfasten it, wrap it or twist it… They also mean you don’t have to be in shirt sleeves at a cocktail party; by replacing the formal jacket with a more versatile garment, you can achieve a more casual look whilst maintaining an attitude.
sh: How would you define Alexis Mabille, the man?
AM: He has a strong personality and asserts his love for fashion and frivolity. He enjoys everything and does not take himself seriously. Lastly, he has a knack for adding a perfect touch of relaxation and freshness to even his most sophisticated outfits.
sh: What are you going to buy on studiohomme.com?
AM: The Pierre Hardy pale blue trainers and the ‘Riche’ key ring by Peggy Huyn Kinh.
