Interview with Alix Thomsen
Archive April 2009
studiohomme: Could you give a definition to the shirts you design?
Alix Thomsen: They are casual, elegant and light in the meantime. Even the most adjusted ones keep the comfortable fitting of an everyday garment. The main purpose is to wear my shirts as you wear a t-shirt, you get the same fresh look but in a more chic version.
sh: What is the next move for the Thomsen men’s line?
AT : Next summer, we will propose unstructured jackets, pyjama trousers, as well as various pieces taken from the masculine wardrobe, but each time done with a shirt fabric.
sh: Which kind of men do you think of when you design?
AT: To the young man who does not fit in any square exactly. He is not boringly classical, neither stupidly cool and hype, nor vaguely eccentric. He is also an independent boy, clever and with a certain sense of humour. Finally, he is as chic in Liberty as in solid colour. Perfect guy, you know!
sh: How would you dress if you were a boy?
AT: Mostly I would wear high quality basics with subtle shades, refined patterns and perfect fabrics. The thing is to wear nice pieces without too many care. I would be classical with a bohemian French touch, an eccentric English touch and some sharpness in cuts and fabrics as Japanese do. My own private world tour…
sh: What is your boyfriend’s look? And what will you get him on studiohomme.com?
AT: Quite classical with his touch of madness, basic and very personal. He likes his blue Thom Browne shirt, his multicoloured Pierre Hardy sneakers, his vintage Lacoste polos originally in the creasiest shades. He will like the blue cardigan and LA used classical jeans by Kitsuné, Moscot sunglasses and many more…
sh: Could you drop the name of male celebrities who have a good style according to your standards?
AT: Serge Gainsbourg, Jacques Dutronc, Yves Saint-Laurent, Louis Garrel and Christophe Lemaire.
