Interview with Masaya Kuroki of KitsunéArchive May 2009
studiohomme: What are you wearing these days?
Masaya Kuroki: Seersucker grey jacket of my collection this season, 3-year-used Kitsuné jeans made in Japan, V neck T-shirt in white jersey, Petit Bateau & Kitsuné, white Stan Smiths.
sh: Which are your favourite brands?
MK: Brooks Brothers, Mackintosh, Yves Saint-Laurent.
sh: Do you have fetish accessories?
MK: Yes, my office equipment.
sh: Which men inspire you?
MK: Serge Gainsbourg, Marcello Mastroianni, Jacques Dutronc and Steve McQueen.
sh: What does ‘Kitsuné’ means?
MK: It means fox in Japanese. Even in the earliest beginnings of our company, Gildas Loaec, my partner, and myself, were thinking of touching various activities, different supports. In Japan, an Antic legend says that foxes have many faces…
sh: Beyond the signification of the name of your brand, how would you define your style?
MK: Classic with a modern proportion. Timeless pieces of high quality. A very Parisian attitude. Adjusted cuts but not too much. A laid back elegance for your every day life.
sh: How does your double culture French and Japanese shows in your creations?
MK: I grew up between Paris and Tokyo, between Haussmannian buildings and glass skyscrapers, between a modern education and stricter values. Those contrasts inspire me and are very tagible in the spirit of Kitsuné’s collections.
sh: Which is your favourite piece in the current collection?
MK: Our Oxford white shirt made in Italy.
sh: What are you going to pick up on studiohomme.com?
MK: Good outfits, and the skateboard entirely covered with black leather by Natalia Brilli.
